WASHINGTON — Republican Senate candidate Mike DeWit says if he’s elected, “you have got to put everything you’ve got into this campaign.”
DeWit, who’s up against Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Udall, said Tuesday in a campaign stop in South Carolina that he “has a strong message, a strong vision” and that he would “fight to the end” to be the first Republican to hold the Senate.
DeWits campaign has been heavily focused on the state’s high unemployment rate and the impact of the government shutdown, a factor in some of the GOP candidates’ recent defeats.
But DeWits plan is focused on his record on the Senate and how he would handle the government.
“I think it’s the most important thing to know about me is that I’m a Republican,” he said.
“And you’ve seen me fight every day, every day.”
He continued, “You know, I’ve been a Republican senator from the very beginning, you’ve never seen me look at a woman as a woman, you know, you haven’t seen me stand up for women.
DeWait, a Republican from the southern suburbs of Houston, said his opponent is the most progressive senator he has ever seen.””
I will fight to be president, and if I get the chance to do that, that’s where I’m going to go.”
DeWait, a Republican from the southern suburbs of Houston, said his opponent is the most progressive senator he has ever seen.
“Mark Udall is a liberal Democrat, he’s a liberal senator, and the fact that he’s running against a Republican is something I’m very, very concerned about,” he told the Associated Press.
DeWaits campaign is working to bring in supporters who are not Democrats.
He plans to visit South Carolina next week and has also started a Facebook page that will allow supporters to share their thoughts on his candidacy.
“He’s going to be a strong candidate,” DeWaits said.
“There’s no way that he won’t get this seat.”
De Waits was one of several candidates to launch an ad campaign last week against Udall.
Udall has made defeating DeWaitt a top priority in his campaign.
The senator from Kansas and DeWait had a difficult race, but DeWaite said Tuesday that he has the support of more than 100 people in his ad campaign.
DeWaity is also running a social media campaign with a focus on Udall and other Democrats, as well as the party platform.
“We’ve got a great platform.
We’ve got some big things planned,” he added.
